ADEGBOYEGA AWOMOLO (SAN), TAKES OVER AS 52nd CHAIRMAN BODY OF BENCHERS

Asiwaju Adegboyega Solomon Awomolo, SAN., has been sworn in as the new chairman, Body of Benchers (BoB). The Senior Advocate who took over from Hon. Justice Mary Ukaego Peter-Odili, (JSC, Rtd) as 52nd chair of the august body, who was a one-time Attorney General and commissioner for Justice in Osun State remark described as symbolic and a new call to service” the leadership of the body said the success of any chairman of the Body of Benchers is dependent upon the cooperation of all the members irrespective of status. He appreciated his predecessor, Justice Mary Odili, and extolled her style of inclusive leadership and entertaining consensus decisions of most members on all matters. NJC REINSTATES EKITI JUDGE 16 YEARS AFTER SUSPENSION

Justice Babajide Aladejana of Ekiti State High court has been reinstated to office after 16 years of suspension by the National Judicial Council. Aladejana was suspended from office in 2006 with the state’s former Chief Judge, Justice Kayode Bamisile, under the administration of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore. The duo were suspended for their alleged roles in the political crisis that led to the impeachment of the former Governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose.October 16, 2006, over an alleged 1.4 billion naira poultry scandal, abuse of office and illegal operation of a foreign account. However, Aladejana has officially resumed work on Tuesday. The lift of his suspension followed the review of the NJC. He was subsequently allocated High Court number two where he would be hearing cases and performing other judicial functions.

AKWA IBOM C.J REDEPLOYS FOUR JUDGES TO NEW JUDICIAL DIVISIONS

The Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaete F. Fabian-Obot, has approved the redeployment of four judges of the state High Court to new judicial divisions. A circular from the Chief Judge’s office shows that Hon. Justices Joy Isaiah Unwana, Theresa Isidore Obot, Ezekiel Okon Enang and Uwem Freedom Ibritam were affected in the latest postings. Justice Unwana was redeployed from the High Court Oron division to High Court 3 Uyo division to take over cases handled by two other redeployed judges. On her part, Justice Obot was posted from High Court 3 Uyo division to High Court Etinan division while Justice Enang moved in the opposite direction from Etinan to Oron division. Also, Justice Ibritam was redeployed from High Court 8 Uyo division to High Court Okobo division in the latest reshuffle. The Chief Judge directed that part-heard matters at defence stage or due for judgement must be concluded by the redeployed judges without further orders extending jurisdiction. The postings take

MILITARY COUP: TINUBU PLEADS WITH ECOWAS JUDGES TO RESCUE DEMOCRACY IN AFRICA
