NBA 2024: LAGOS TO HOST NEXT AGC

The 2024 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association will hold in Lagos. Rising from the National Executive Committee Meeting held on Friday 22nd, December 2023, the Nigerian Bar Association declared 23rd August, 2024 as the commencement date for the Annual General Conference of the Association. Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, SAN., also declared that Lagos is the destination for the year 2024 Annual General Conference (AGC) of the largest gathering of lawyers will hold from Friday 23rd to Friday 30th August, 2024.

Story By: TOLU MUSTAPHA  The much anticipated Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) of Nigeria's oldest refinery seem to have finally become a reality as promised by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. At about midnight on Wednesday, 21st December, 2023, a short video surface online showing the return to life of the refinery which has been undergoing total overhaul in the last few months. Engineers and other workers on site at the refinery were seen in jubilant mood as they watched with keen interest the gas flaring light coming out of the newly overhauled refinery. The Port Harcourt Refinery, which comprises processing units, utility plants, and tank farms, is undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation involving a complete overhaul and change-out of major equipment.

UPDATE: SEN. SHARAFADEEN ALLI CONFIRMS COMMENCEMENT OF SCREENING OF SUPREME COURT NOMINEES

The Senate committee on Judicary and Human Right has commenced screening of the 11 nominees to the vacant Supreme court bench. The names of the nominees were sent to the Senate today by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for screening and approval by the Senate. Confirming commencement of the screening exercise, senator representing Oyo South senatorial district, who is also a member of the Senate committee on Judicary and Human Rights, Sen. (Barr.) Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli said the exercise has commenced in earnest, "They're being screened now by the Committee on Judiciary and Human Right of which I am a member", he said. SUPREME COURT VACANCY: 11 NAMES SENT TO SENATE FOR SCREENING (SEE LIST)

President Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of 11 new Justices nominated to the Supreme Court bench. The president, in a letter to the upper legislative chamber read at Wednesday’s plenary, listed the names of the judicial officers as follows; Justice Jummai Sankey Justice S tephen Adah J ustice Mohammed Idris Justice Haruna Tsammani Justice Jamilu Tukur Justice Abubakar Umar Justice Chidiebere Uwa Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme Justice Obande Ogbuinya Justice Moore Adumein  Justice Habeeb Abiru S ection 231(2) of the 1999 Constitution which empowers the president to appoint new Supreme Court justices subject to confirmation by the Senate. MASS RETIREMENT: 113 GENERALS BOW OUT OF NIGERIAN ARMY

  A shocking wave of mass retirement has hit the Nigerian Army. On Tuesday, a total of 113 Nigerian Army Generals retired from service. They include, one General, one Lieutenant General, 67 Major Generals, and 44 Brigadier Generals. COURT FREEZES OYO GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTS OVER UNPAID N3.5b JUDGMENT DEBT

  The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja has issued an order to freeze the accounts of the Oyo state government in ten commercial banks across the country. The order was issued by Justice A. O. Ebong in a ruling on a proceeding initiated by ex-council chiefs in Oyo state, sacked on May 29, 2019 by Governor Seyi Makinde, and who in 2021 got a N4,874,889,425.60 judgment against Makinde and other officials/agencies of the state. The other officials/agencies listed with Makinde as judgment debtors, by virtue of the May 7, 2021 judgment of the Supreme Court, are the Attorney General, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Accountant General of Oyo State, Speaker of the House of Assembly, the House of Assembly and the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).
