NBA IBADAN BRANCH IDENTIFIES WITH MEMBERS OVER IBADAN EXPLOSION


The executive committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ibadan branch, has sympathized with victims of Tuesday’s explosion at Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The association in a statement by its publicity secretary, Oluwatobi Fatoki, Esq. said the chairman of the association, Folasade Aladeniyi and other members of the executive committee of the Bar reached out to legal practitioners residing and practicing around the axis of the explosion.

The association revealed that some legal practitioners from the Ibadan branch of the  NBA, including, the former Governor of old Oyo state, Chief Bola Ige, former deputy governor of Oyo state, Iyiola Oladokun, Niyi Akintola (SAN), Niyi Farinto, Ayo Arowosafe among others, were affected by the explosion.

The executive committee of the NBA commended the swift action of the state government, security agencies, fire brigade, medical practitioners, Red Cross and others in ameliorating the effect of the blast on the  victims.

The NBA chairman charged members of the public to always speak up and report suspicious issues around them.

“Our general conspiracy of silence and to look the other way in our country when we notice wrong and abnormal behaviour around us is our undoing.

“As long as the matter does not affect us personally, we look away, and we are not bothered.”

Ms Aladeniyi also urged the Oyo state government to always act on complaints received by members of the public in the interest of good governance.

BETTA EDU: EFCC RECOVERS 30 BILLION NAIRA

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has so far recovered 30 Billion naira for the Federal Government while it has also placed 50 bank accounts under investigation in the ongoing probe of the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, including the erstwhile chief executive officer of the now suspended National Social Investment Programme Authority (NSIPA), Halima Shehu. NIGERIAN LAW SCHOOL TO CLEAR BACKLOG OF ADMISSION

  The management of Nigerian Law school has been given the go-ahead to clear the back log of admission for qualified law graduates who are yet to be admitted for the mandatory one year training Programme for legal practitioners in Nigeria. This decisions formed part of the resolution of the Council for Legal Education at it's just concluded council meeting.
