BARRYFEST CELEBRATION BEGINS IN IBADAN TODAY

 

The 2024 edition of BarryFest, a musical festival in honour of the late Fuji exponent, Alhaji (Dr) Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, will begin in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, from today 9th till tomorrow 10th February, 2024.

The event is organised by various fans club of the late famous Fuji musician, within and outside the shores of Nigeria.

Secretary of the 2024 BarryFest, Asiwaju Ademola Adesingbin, stated this in a press release to announce the event.

Among the programmes lined up for the event are;

Day 1: 9th February, 2024

Posthumous birthday prayer for the late iconic Fuji musician at Muftau Lanihun Mosque, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Unveiling of a cenotaph in memory of Sikiru Ayinde Barrister at Lagos-Ibadan Express Way.

Gala Night at the expansive Ilaji Hotel and Resort, situated at Akanran, Ibadan.


Day 2: 10th February, 2024

Premiere of the first episode of a Fuji documentary, titled “Mr Fuji Barry Wonder”, by Saheed Aderinto, a professor of History United States of America (USA).

Presentation of various categories of awards to deserving individuals and bodies during the 2024 BarryFest.

The event would be under the chairmanship of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The chairperson is Yeye Adunola Oredolapo Adesuyi, while the Guest Speaker at the Fuji documentary is Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

Guests and members of the various fans clubs of the late legendary Fuji musician would be entertained by various Fuji musicians.

The late Alhaji (Dr) Sikiru Ayinde Balogun, MFR, otherwise known as Ayinde Barrister, a native of Ibadan who was born in Lagos on the 9th of February, 1948.

A song-writer, song-producer and music performer, Barrister was widely regarded as the pioneer of Fuji music which evolved from Were music.

The late Fuji music icon released his first album in 1965 and subsequently went on to release over 70 studio albums throughout his musical career between 1965 and 2010.

Sikiru Ayinde Barrister also called Alhaji Agba and Barusati, died on 16 December, 2010 (aged 62) at St. Mary’s Hospital, London, United Kingdom and was buried at his Music Chamber, Isolo, Lagos State.

BETTA EDU: EFCC RECOVERS 30 BILLION NAIRA

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has so far recovered 30 Billion naira for the Federal Government while it has also placed 50 bank accounts under investigation in the ongoing probe of the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, including the erstwhile chief executive officer of the now suspended National Social Investment Programme Authority (NSIPA), Halima Shehu. Both Edu and Shehu were suspended about three months ago by President Bola Tinubu over alleged financial malfeasance.  The President also suspended Social Investment Programme and, thereafter, asked the EFCC to take over the case and probe both embattled officials including anyone involved. NIGERIAN LAW SCHOOL TO CLEAR BACKLOG OF ADMISSION

  The management of Nigerian Law school has been given the go-ahead to clear the back log of admission for qualified law graduates who are yet to be admitted for the mandatory one year training Programme for legal practitioners in Nigeria. This decisions formed part of the resolution of the Council for Legal Education at it's just concluded council meeting. The council announced the commencement of a Mid-Year Academic Session for the 2024/2025 academic calendar by May to address the backlog of law graduates resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).  According to the council, this session is however not open to universities that exceeded their approved admission quotas.
