JUSTICE L.A GANIYU FROM OYO STATE, 8 OTHERS FOR ELEVATION AS COURT OF APPEAL JUSTICES BY CJN


The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, will on wednesday, 20th of September, 2023, administer the oath of office to the newly appointed nine Justices of the Court of Appeal on Wednesday at the main court auditorium of the Supreme Court.

According to a statement by the Director of Press and Information of the court,  Dr.  Akande Festus, the Justices are;

Hannatu Laja-Balogun from Kaduna State, who was appointed a High Court Judge on  May 24, 1999; 

Binta  Zubairu from Kaduna State appointed a High Court Judge on October 31, 2001;

Peter Chudi Obiora from Anambra State, who was sworn-in as High Court Judge on January 17, 2005;

Justice Okon Efreti Abang from Akwa Ibom State, appointed a High Court Judge on June, 22nd 2009; 

Asma’u  Mainoma from Federal Capital Territory appointed High Court Judge on February 1_ 2013; 

Lateef A Ganiyu from Oyo State, who became High Court Judge on June 26, 2014;

Jane  Iyang from Cross River State, who was sworn-in as High Court Judge on February 12, 2015.

Justice Hadiza Rabiu Shagari from Sokoto State, elevated to the High Court Bench on 12th February 2015; 

Paul Ahmed Bassi from Borno State, appointed to the High Court on 14th July 2017.

Akande also said Justice Amina Augie would retire from the apex court after attaining the age of 70 years on September 21.

He said, “Justice Amina  Augie will formally retire from the Supreme Court Bench on Thursday,  September 21, 2023, after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70 years on Sunday, 3rd September, 2023.

“The valedictory court session in her honour was delayed because of the annual vacation of the Court which just ended on Friday, 15th September 2023.”

Justice Amina Augie was sworn in as Justice of the Supreme Court on November 7, 2016. She graduated with a Second Class Upper Division in Law from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1977 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1978. ”

OYO ASSEMBLY TO CONFIRM JUSTICE TAJUDEEN ABDUL'GANIYU AS PRESIDENT, CUSTOMARY COURT OF APPEAL

Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has forwarded a letter requesting for the confirmation of appointment of Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu as the President Customary Court of Appeal, Oyo State to the State House of Assembly. The request follows the recommendation of Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu to the National Judicial Council as President of the Court of Appeal by the Oyo State Judicial Service Commission. According to the letter, ” Consequent upon the request, the National Judicial Council has recommended Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu as the new President of Oyo State Customary Court of Appeal.” The position became vacant due to the retirement of former President of the Customary Court of Appeal in Oyo State, Hon. COURT FORFEIT TWO OIL BUNKERING VESSEL TO GOVERNMENT

Two Federal High Courts sitting in Abuja has ordered the forfeiture of MT Kali and MT Harbor Spirit, two bunkering vessels to the Federal Government of Nigeria. The two vessels were recently arrested by operatives of TSSNL in conjunction with the special task force set up by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla. Delivering an interim order of forfeiture in the case filed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, Justice J. K. Omotosho yesterday ordered that MT Harbor Spirit and its content be forfeited to the Federal Government pending when any party might show cause why the order should not be made final within six months.
