YAWI CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD



CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD AT SABO, IBADAN.

The Young and Woman Initiative YAWI celebrates international day of girl child on Saturday October 14, 2023, at sabo, mokola primary health center in partnership with local Zonta Clubs in Ibadan and various organizations committed to the empowerment and well-being of girls. 

The celebration was marked by a series of activities aimed at promoting girls' rights, leadership and health awareness.

Ambassador Agbeja Adebobola, Executive Director of Young and Woman Initiative (YAWI), addressed the importance of girls' rights.


YAWI's Adolescent Boot Camp Girls Volunteers were present to passionately advocate for the eradication of Female Genital Mutilation (EndFGM).

Menstrual hygiene, a critical aspect of girls' health, was discussed by Zontian Funmi Adegbile from Zonta Club 2, Ibadan.

Leadership skills were also emphasized during the event, with Zontian Tayo Alabi from Zonta Club 1, Ibadan, leading an informative session.

Breast cancer awareness was a significant part of the day's proceedings, thanks to the participation of the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN) in Oyo State.

In a gesture of kindness and solidarity, foodstuffs and sanitary pads were distributed to commemorate the day, ensuring that the girls had access to essential resources. 

The celebration didn't stop at discussions; the girls engaged in exciting games, winning various gifts and, most importantly, having a great time.

This International Day of the Girl Child celebration was a testament to the community's commitment to girls' empowerment, education, and overall well-being. 

It served as a reminder of the importance of advocating for girls' rights and providing them with the tools and support they need to thrive. 

The event was a resounding success, leaving a positive impact on the lives of the girls in Sabo, Ibadan, and reaffirming the importance of collective efforts to empower and uplift the girl child.

BETTA EDU: EFCC RECOVERS 30 BILLION NAIRA

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has so far recovered 30 Billion naira for the Federal Government while it has also placed 50 bank accounts under investigation in the ongoing probe of the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, including the erstwhile chief executive officer of the now suspended National Social Investment Programme Authority (NSIPA), Halima Shehu. Both Edu and Shehu were suspended about three months ago by President Bola Tinubu over alleged financial malfeasance.  The President also suspended Social Investment Programme and, thereafter, asked the EFCC to take over the case and probe both embattled officials including anyone involved. NIGERIAN LAW SCHOOL TO CLEAR BACKLOG OF ADMISSION

  The management of Nigerian Law school has been given the go-ahead to clear the back log of admission for qualified law graduates who are yet to be admitted for the mandatory one year training Programme for legal practitioners in Nigeria. This decisions formed part of the resolution of the Council for Legal Education at it's just concluded council meeting. The council announced the commencement of a Mid-Year Academic Session for the 2024/2025 academic calendar by May to address the backlog of law graduates resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).  According to the council, this session is however not open to universities that exceeded their approved admission quotas.
