No fewer than a total of 19 people have been reported dead, injured and hospitalized following a stampede that occurred on Sunday, 24th March, 2024, at the Agodi GRA, Ibadan, residence of Aare Musulumi of yorubaland, Alh. Dauda Makanjuola.
The incident which occurred during the distribution of Ramadan palliative items to residents of the state took a turn for the worse when scores of people who besieged the government residential area residence of the religious leader in their thousands began to stampede themselves leading to the death of so many.
According to investigation, identity of some of the deceased include, Yemisi Isawade, who resides in yemetu area of the state, a couple who were stampeded minutes away from each other, among others.
Families and friends of some of the deceased were contacted through phone contacts found on the deceased mobile phones to pick up bodies of their loved ones while bodies of others whose relatives are yet to be identified have been deposited at various morgues within the state.
As at press time, one of the injured victims is presently undergoing treatment at the university college hospital, UCH, Ibadan, while another who was turned back at Molly hospital is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital around Ikolaba area of the state.
