A senior Advocate of Nigeria, Abiodun Adediran Olatunji SAN., has called on Legal practitioners in Nigeria to promptly respond to the demands of Artificial Intelligence in the practice of the legal profession and deploy its use effectively and responsibly.
Olatunji gave this advice while delivering the maiden alumni lecture of the faculty of Law, University of Ibadan.
The lecture with the tittled, Artificial Intelligence and the future of the legal profession centred around the impact of technology and it's effect on the legal profession.
The learned silk, who is one of the thirty-three (33) Senior Advocates of Nigeria listed in the roll of honour to have obtained their law degree from the University of Ibadan said for lawyers to maintain a competitive edge in the legal profession, it is inevitable for practitioners to take advantage of emerging technologies and integrate modern innovations to boost efficiency and productivity.
Artificial Intelligence in the legal profession, he said, can be utilized in enhancing legal research, contract analysis, document generation, technology assisted reviews, due diligence reviews, predictive legal analytics, paperwork automation among others.
According to him, the society works over is fast developing into Artificial Intelligence (Al) controlled and can be seen from the emergence of autonomous self driven vehicles, instant language translation on google, search engine to enhance user experience.
He urged practitioners in the legal profession to continuously acquire new skills and competencies such as data literacy, data protection, digital fluency, critical thinking and adopt new ways of working and collaboration for enhanced service delivery with the use of Artificial Intelligence.
