TOLU MEDICAL CENTRE: 37 YEARS OF COMMITMENT TO MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH

In the heart of Ajegunle, a bustling neighborhood in Lagos, lies a symbol  of hope for pregnant women and their families.

Tolu Medical Centre, a private hospital established on September 1st, 1987, has been dedicated to providing quality healthcare services to the community for 37 years.

As the hospital approaches its fourth decade, it remains steadfast in its mission to reduce maternal mortality and promote healthy living.

Tolu Medical Centre has consistently demonstrated its commitment to maternal and child health through its various programs and services.

The hospital offers health gatherings for pregnant mothers twice a year, educating them on the do's and don't of safe delivery.

These gatherings are designed to empower women with knowledge and skills to ensure a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

The hospital's dedication to maternal health is evident in its approach to healthcare delivery.

The staff at Tolu Medical Centre are trained to provide personalized care to each patient, ensuring that their unique needs are met.

The hospital's facilities are clean, tidy and well-maintained, creating a comforting ambiance that promotes healing.

Going by the World Health Organisation (WHO), maternal mortality in Nigeria remains one of the highest globally.

Data from the health agency revealed that Nigeria accounted for 12 per cent of global maternal, stillbirths and neonatal deaths and to address this challenge, Tolu Medical Centre has embarked on a mission to sensitize pregnant women in underserved communities about the importance of antenatal care, delivery and family planning services.

The hospital's Group Managing Director, Mrs Olajumoke Caxton-Martins, emphasized the need for continued sensitization of pregnant women in underserved communities.

She noted that education and empowerment of pregnant women would reduce death(s) from pregnancy complications and their dependence on unskilled traditional birth attendants (TBA).

Caxton-Martins stressed that the hospital's commitment to maternal health is unwavering.

According to her, "We are dedicated to providing quality healthcare services to pregnant women and their families."

"Our goal is to reduce maternal mortality and promote healthy living, she opined."

The hospital's Medical Director, Dr. Abayomi Ayankoso, echoed Caxton-Martins' sentiments.

"We are passionate about delivering exceptional healthcare services to our patients."

"Our team of healthcare professionals are dedicated to providing personalized care to each patient, ensuring that their unique needs are met, he said."

One of the hospital's patients, Mrs. Juliet Yakub, shared her experience at Tolu Medical Centre.

"I was referred to this hospital by a friend after I experienced complications during my pregnancy, she recalled."

"The staff were very attentive and caring, while they ensured that I received the best possible care, she recalled enthusiastically."

"I am grateful for their expertise and compassion, she concluded."

The hospital's commitment to maternal health is not limited to its patients.

Tolu Medical Centre also provides training and education to healthcare professionals and students.

The hospital's staff are actively involved in research and development, working to improve healthcare outcomes for pregnant women and their families.

As Tolu Medical Centre celebrates its 37th anniversary, it is clear that the hospital's dedication to maternal health is unwavering.

The hospital's commitment to providing quality healthcare services and professionals, educating patients along with promoting healthy living is a confirmation of its enduring legacy of excellence in healthcare backed with a truly inspiring track record in maternal health, patient-centered care, and community engagement.
