The position of the law on the determination of PATERNITY in Nigeria as espoused by the COURT OF APPEAL, Per Mbaba, JCA in the case of TONY ANOZIA V. MRS. PATRICIA OKWUNWA NNANI & IGNATIUS "NNANI" (2015) 8 NWLR (PT. 1461) 241. FACTS OF THE CASE. The facts of the case which is otherwise known as ANOZIA V. NNANI are that the Appellant filed a suit against a married woman (the 1st Respondent) and her son (the 2nd Respondent) seeking for a declaration of the paternity of the 2nd Respondent. His case was that he had sexual intercourse with the 1st Respondent sometime in 1957, at a time when the 1st Respondent’s husband was terminally ill and incapable of performing sexual acts. The Respondents denied the claims. While the matter was yet to be tried, the Appellant filed an application seeking for an order of court referring parties for a DNA test. A former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi CON has been called to the Nigerian Bar. Amaechi was a former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, a 2-time Governor of the oil-rich State and was Director-General of the Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation in both 2014/15 and 2018/2019. The former 'Super Minister' was born on May 27, 1965 in Ubima, Ikwerre LGA and studied English Studies and Literature at the University of Port Harcourt, graduating in 1987. IBADAN EXPLOSION: COURT REMANDS THREE SUSPECTS IN PRISON CUSTODY

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has ordered the remand of a woman and two other men in the Agodi Correctional service  (formerly known as Agodi Prison) for their roles in the January 16, 2024, Bodija, Ibadan explosion. The trio of 47 year old Ramatu Camara, 20 year old Ganiu Malik, and Abubakar Samasa, 64, were charged with conspiracy, use of weapons of mass destruction, stockpiling of radioactive materials, and dispersal of biological weapons, which led to the explosion that rocked Ibadan, the Oyo state capital in January. After pleading not guilty when the charges were read against them, Justice E.U. Akpan ordered that they be remanded in the Agodi correctional centre, and adjourned the suit until April 11 for hearing on their bail application. Police prosecutor, Michael Ojeah, had informed the court that Camara, Malik, and Samasa were facing a five-count charge against the state. Ojeah further added that the defendants and others at large committed the crime at about 7.30 p.m

JUSTICE TANZE BENJAMIN MAKAMA IS DEAD

A newly appointed Judge of the Nasarawa  High Court, Hon. Justice Tanze Benjamin Makama is dead. The Nasarawa State Judiciary was thrown in to mourning with the loss of the revered jurist who passed away on the 5th of March, 2024. Justice Makama’s death comes as a shock to the legal community, as he had only recently taken office in December 2023. According to sources close to the family, Justice Makama had been battling an undisclosed ailment prior to his passing, though the exact nature of the sickness and cause of death is yet to be disclosed. Justice Makama’s appointment to the High Court of Justice Nasarawa State Judiciary on December 29, 2023, was in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the legal profession.  Throughout his career, he demonstrated a deep commitment to upholding the rule of law and serving the people of Nasarawa State with integrity and fairness. By: Miriam Seember Atser Esq.   INTRODUCTION : It has long been observed that mid-air births are a rarity.  The reason for such position is not farfetched as most airlines restrict the travel of heavily pregnant women after 35 weeks of pregnancy due to the risk of delivery in flight. However, it appears the narrative is fast changing as a number of on board flight births have been recorded in recent times.  In 2022, the New York Post reported that a pregnant woman who didn’t know she was pregnant gave birth mid- flight (onboard KLM Royal Dutch flight from Ecuador to Spain through Amsterdam, the Netherlands), after she went into the plane’s toilet with a stomach ache but ended up giving birth.  In a near similar turn of events, Vanguard reported in June of 2023, that a pregnant woman flying on a Boeing 777, KLM flight, from, Lagos to Amsterdam suddenly went into labour and eventually put to bed mid-air, forcing the airplane to land as a matter of emergency in Spain.  This is to mention
