A Lagos-based Integrity Group has urged President Bola Tinubu to investigate alleged corruption in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) under its current Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari.  The group, led by Comrade Korede Adigun, demanded a probe similar to the one conducted by Jim Obazee in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Adigun lamented the persistent fuel scarcity and soaring prices, accusing the NNPCL of mismanagement and corruption.  He claimed that queues disappeared under the previous leadership of Maikanti Baru but resurfaced under Kyari. The group questioned why President Tinubu had not ordered a probe into the NNPCL despite public outcry and alleged that some board members close to the president were protecting Kyari. Adigun called for Kyari's removal, citing the failure of leadership in the NNPCL, and urged the president to address the situation to prevent another nationwide protest.   Hon. Justice Adegboye Ayinla Gbolagunte of High Court of Justice Oyo State is dead. Family Source said he passed on at 11 am on Monday 24 June 2024 during a protracted illness. He was aged 64. The late Justice Gbolagunte was one of the sons of late Chief Davidson Mokolade Gbolagunte, who was an elected UPN member for Ibarapa I Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly and became the Speaker . He is survived by his aged mother, wife, children, brothers and sisters. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

The Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University has assured that the institution will ensure justice for the female student of the institution who was allegedly raped by two vigilance employees of the school on Thursday. A statement signed by the university registrar and secretary of the council, Dr Jadesola Babatola, said the council also condemned the act, while commending the management for taking prompt step to address the allegation and added that the university would cooperate with the police in their investigation.   The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has urged for a comprehensive overhaul of the National Judicial Council (NJC), citing the need for greater independence and accountability in the body responsible for judicial appointments and discipline.  Currently, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) serves as the chairman of the NJC, a arrangement the NBA deems flawed. According to the NBA, "The present composition of the NJC undermines its ability to effectively investigate and discipline judicial misconduct, thereby eroding public trust." To address this, the NBA recommends a revised composition for the NJC, comprising six judicial officers appointed by the CJN, six lawyers nominated by the NBA, and six non-lawyers appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.  The chairmanship of the NJC would rotate among the three constituent groups.
