OYO GOVT. CELEBRATES AGRIC COMMISSIONER ON HIS BIRTHDAY

OYO SSG, PROF. OLANIKE ADEYEMO RE-APPOINTED TO HLPE-FSN’s STEERING COMMITTEE

  Professor Olanike Adeyemo, secretary to Oyo State Government, has been re-appointed to the Steering Committee of the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE-FSN) of the United Nations Committee on World Food Security (CFS). The reappointment is in recognition of her immense contribution to food security and human nutrition globally. The HLPE-FSN is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to global food security and nutrition. The HLPE-FSN is governed by a Steering Committee of 15 world-renowned scientists drawn from the academia, research Institutions, public and private sector, civil society among others. Professor Adeyemo is one of the three African members of the Steering Committee, including Mr. Serraj Rachid from Morocco and Hettie Schonfeldt, a national of South Africa. OHINOYI OF EBIRALAND, DR ADO IBRAHIM, IS DEAD

The ruler of Ebiraland was said to have died in the early hours of Sunday at the age of 95. Palace sources told our correspondent in Lokoja the he died in an Abuja hospital where he had been receiving treatment for age-related ailment. Before ascending the throne, he was a successful businesman who lived most parts of his life in Lagos. While waiting for the official pronouncement from the Ohinoyi Palace and government of Kogi State, it is expected that the late first-class monarch will be buried later this Sunday in Okene, in accordance with Islamic rites.

GENTLE JACK, YAKUBU GOWON

Yakubu Dan-Yumma "Jack" Gowon  born 19 October 1934 is a retired  Nigerian army  general and military leader. As  head of state of Nigeria ,  Gowon presided over a controversial  Nigerian Civil War  and delivered the famous "no victor, no vanquished" speech at the war's end to promote healing and reconciliation.  The Nigerian Civil War is listed as  one of the deadliest in modern history , with some accusing Gowon of  crimes against humanity  and  genocide .   A retired Permanent Secretary in the Oyo State Civil Service, Pastor David Olatunde has commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde for appointing Mrs Olubunmi Oni, mni as the 24th Head of Service in the State.   Obafemi Awolowo University, 1989 Political Science set, OAU, Ile-Ife on Sunday organized a civic reception to honour the Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, mni on her appointment as the State Head of Service. The programme was held at Nest Hotel and Suites. Ibadan.
